The AGIC rating scheme features seven themes and 27 associated categories:

 

Project management & governance

Embedding sustainability into all processes and phases of a project's design, construction and operation.

Categories include purchase and procurement, reporting and responsibilities, climate change vulnerability, making decisions and knowledge sharing and capacity building.


Economic performance

Using economic and financial resources effectively and responsibly with regards to the long-term economic sustainability of the project/infrastructure/asset.

Categories are value for money, due diligence and economic life.


Using resources

Minimising consumption of precious resources and optimising resource efficiency through lifecycle/cradle-to-grave thinking.  To move towards a world where natural resources are consumed no faster than the planet can replenish them.

Categories are energy use, water and materials selection & use.


Emissions, pollution & waste

Minimising pollution and degradation of emissions to air, water and land.  To move towards a world where wastes are not emitted faster than the planet can absorb them.

Categories are Greenhouse gas management, discharges to air, water or land, land management and waste management.


Biodiversity

Improving the functioning of ecosystems and enhancing biodiversity.  To achieve a net gain in biodiversity.

Categories are functioning of ecosystems and enhanced biodiversity.


People & place

Enhance the health, quality and wellbeing of living things now and for future generations.  Projects will leave a positive legacy for current and future generations.

Categories are health, wellbeing and safety, natural and cultural heritage values, participatory processes, positive legacy for current and future generations, enhanced urban and landscape design and aesthetics, knowledge sharing/shared intellectual property.


Workforce

Promote the safety, health and personal development of the workforce.  Enhance workforce wellbeing through skill and capability development , and increased ability to deliver sustainable outcomes.

Categories are health, wellbeing and safety of the workforce, capacity building, increased knowledge of applied sustainability and equity.
